The job at a glance:

You will lead distributed teams based in multiple countries, broadly responsible for maintaining and standardising cloud infrastructure at StepStone. Together with the Directors responsible for Data Platforms, Developer Experience and AI Labs, plus the VP of Platform Technology, you will conceive and execute the platform strategy for the Group – policy, technology landscape, architecture, and DevOps culture. 

Our aim is to provide a frictionless development environment – we build things that are stable and useful, and we take responsibility for the stability of our applications and infrastructure in production. By doing this, we empower the product development teams to increase their own skill and quality levels as well as their velocity.

Job Description:

  • Lead and manage the platform product and engineering teams to deliver high-quality software solutions that meet business requirements and exceed developer expectations.   

  • Oversee the development and implementation of new technologies and systems, ensuring they align with the company's strategic goals.    

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and operations, to define and execute the engineering roadmap.    

  • Ensure the scalability, performance, and security of our applications, implementing best practices and industry standards.    

  • Mentor and develop engineering talent within the team, providing guidance, support, and opportunities for professional growth.    

  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices and processes, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.    

  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.   

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and opportunities.   

  • Managing AWS budget effectively. 

  • Defining technical vision for the portfolio of products. 

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a senior engineering leadership role, with a track record of successfully leading and managing engineering teams.    

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team of engineers.    

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.    

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for innovation.    

  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Fluent in working directly with data to inform decisions and persuade stakeholders, with the ability to define and track key metrics to measure progress and impact.  

  • Hands-on experience in designing and developing complex software systems.    

  • Strong expertise in Java or .Net technologies, proficient in SQL.  

  • Experience working with messaging systems (kafka/rabbitmq).  

  • Experience working with AWS.  

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.    

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
